Whether you love it or hate it, you have to admit that the Maryland state flag is one of the most unique in the country. Of course, we absolutely love it, and are proud to sport it whenever we can. Not only will you find us wearing the state pattern from time to time, you’ll also find it in our homes in the form of a print from our friends at Old Try. Recently, we identified a version of the flag that we can’t wait to get our hands on. It’s from an artist named Chris Knight, and we’ve become semi-obsessed with his incredible distressed wood flags.
In an effort to forget just how cold it is here, we’re celebrating Bowtie Friday this week by thinking warm thoughts and revisiting one of our favorite warm weather bowties. This week’s pick is the Topless Beau by Southern Proper, we originally featured it back in the Summer of 2012, and it’s been a mainstay in our collection ever since. The post below originally ran on June 1, 2012.
Just when we thought we were finished hitting the Winter clearance sales, we realized we hadn’t perused the virtual storefront of Unionmade in quite some time. Turns out their semi-annual sale is in full swing, and there are some absolutely fantastic deals to be had. Below you’ll find a few of our favorites.
As every guy knows, finding the right cologne can be nerve racking to say the least. We tend to find something we like and stick with it for years on end, but every once in a while you have to make a change. Recently, we were turned on to a brand out of North Carolina called Fulton & Roark that is turning out some pretty great solid colognes. To say we were intrigued would be an understatement.
Well, if the National Weather Service is right, we’ll be getting more snow today than we have in quite some time. Of course, around here, that means that stores are sold out of bread and milk, and that as soon as the first flake falls traffic will instantly gridlock. That said, if things to come to fruition, we’ll be left wishing we had added a true winter coat to the collection this year. If we lived in a colder climate, or if it actually snowed as often as the local weatherman said it was going to here in Maryland, our pick would be the Ascent Windstopper Down Jacket from L.L. Bean.
After a weekend of relaxing, letting our beards grow, and not doing much of anything, we were almost looking forward to getting cleaned up this morning. Almost. Regardless, ever since we made the switch from drug store disposables to Harry’s razors back in April, shaving has become much less of a chore. We love the original Winston set that we’ve been using, but now that there is an engraved option, it looks like it’s time for an upgrade.
We do our best to not feature the same brand twice in one week here at Bowties & Boatshoes, but with Bonobos offering Jim Harbaugh ten pairs of their chinos and a $10,000 donation to his favorite charity, we’re breaking our own rule this weekend. We all know the Niners coach loves some ill-fitting khakis, and, according to recent reports, apparently his wife hates them just as much as we do. In honor of the #GetHarbaughinBonobos campaign, we’re revisiting the first piece we ever featured from Bonobos, a pair of Graham Slackers.
For both of us, the first bowtie we ever tied on was a repp stripe. After a quick poll of friends, it seems that we are far from the only ones who started this way. Though our horizons have broadened significantly over the years, you’ll still find us sporting repp stripes regularly. Today’s pick is a bit of a twist on a traditional repp stripe bow, it’s the Davie Stripes Quad Bow by R. Hanauer.
As much as we try to stick with the basics, we find ourselves constantly smitten with things that are just a bit out of the ordinary. Yes, we know that we won’t be able to wear most of these pieces for more than a year or two, but sometimes you just have to go for it. That’s what we’re doing with the Cunningham from Ledbury.
This time of year, we’re always on the hunt for a couple of new sweaters. Sweaters that are heavy enough to wear over the next few months, yet could still work well on a chilly Spring night. That’s just what we found when we laid eyes on the Bonobos Sparrowfield Sweater.
