While we were sorry to hear the news that Lands’ End will be shutting down Canvas in the very near future, we are enjoying a few of the final deals of this once promising off-shoot. In fact, our we may have just identified what may be the final piece of Canvas clothing that gets added to our wardrobe. Now available for under $100, the Holiday Blackwatch Wool Sportcoat is calling our name.

As much as we love a good deal, we’re also firm believers that a “Made in the USA” label is worth every additional penny. From smaller companies who are going to great lengths to ensure that every one of their products proudly sports an American flag, to larger companies who are bringing some of their manufacturing back from overseas, there are some absolutely fantastic products being turned out in this great country of ours, and we’re proud to wear them. Soon, we’ll be adding another pair of made in the USA loafers to our collection. Now that G.H. Bass is making Weejuns stateside again, how could we not pick up a pair?

Every time we talk about t-shirts, we find ourselves comparing the new additions to our collection to the old classics that we go back to time and time again. Over the last two years, there has been one t-shirt featured on this site that has truly become a go to for us. It’s traveled just about everywhere we have over the last 24 months, and seems to be the choice more times than not on low key weekends at home. Did you know that the record for most bowties being tied simultaneously is 417? We didn’t either until our friends at Southern Tide reached out to tell us about Tie Us Together, a fantastic event they are sponsoring down in Columbia, SC next month. In an effort to raise money and awareness for the Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, the famed Brittons is putting out the all-call for bowtie lovers to head down to their neck of the woods, and tie on a bow for a great cause. Their goal is to double the current world record! With less than one month to go before the event, we have a feeling people are already trying to decide which bow they will be wearing for the festivities. Odds are there will be more than a few Southern Tide Shrimp & Grits bows in attendance when the day arrives. Whether you can make it or not (if you can, register here), Southern Tide wants to give one lucky Bowties & Boatshoes reader a Shrimp & Grits bow of their own.

A few months back we had the pleasure of speaking with Frank Clegg, the man behind Frank Clegg Leatherworks. It was truly a pleasure to speak to someone so passionate about what he does, and the thing that impressed us most about Mr. Clegg was how excited he was to be teaming with young brands and teaching a new generation about the craft he loves. Well, it looks like the guys at General Knot & Co. are the latest to team up with Frank, and the belts they are turning out look absolutely fantastic. For this time of year, the donegal wool options are our pick.

As much as we’d love to layer on every piece of heavy clothing we own to combat these ridiculously low temperatures, it simply isn’t a suitable option. Instead, we’ve been doing our best to pick and choose the most efficient layering pieces possible. One layer that we’re wishing we had in the arsenal these days is the new Shetland Crewneck Sweater from Sid Mashburn.

See, our friends down at Martin Dingman are in the middle of their huge Winter Sale, and we are doing everything in our power not to order one of just about everything that is included.

As much as we’ll hate to see the season end, and as much as we wish our favorite teams were playing, we’re still pretty excited to see how things shake out in Pasadena tonight. Whether you’re squad is going to be in the spotlight, or if they are sitting at home trying to figure out how to win more than a handful of games, we’d bet our friends at State Traditions have something in their collection that will let you show your support. We’re big fans of the entire line, but if we had to choose just one piece, it would absolutely be their gameday hat.

Recently we’ve noticed quite a glaring gap in our footwear collection. It seems that somewhere along the way we virtually abandoned casual shoes that are anything but leather for this time of year. Last Summer we found ourselves working a few pairs of Tretorns into the rotation, so that was the first place we turned when we realized the gap. Now it looks like we will soon have a pair of hightops (well, mids) in the closet for the first time since our middle school basketball days. Our pick for the weekend is the Skymra Mid SL GTX.

Over the last few years, a number of classic “prep” brands have introduced collections that target a younger demographic of sorts. One such line is York Street from J. Press. While some of the pieces are a bit over the top (even for us), there are some absolute gems in the catalog. One of our favorite items from the York Street collection is the Wool/Silk Repp Stripe bowtie.
