Well, if the National Weather Service is right, we’ll be getting more snow today than we have in quite some time.  Of course, around here, that means that stores are sold out of bread and milk, and that as soon as the first flake falls traffic will instantly gridlock.  That said, if things to come to fruition, we’ll be left wishing we had added a true winter coat to the collection this year.  If we lived in a colder climate, or if it actually snowed as often as the local weatherman said it was going to here in Maryland, our pick would be the Ascent Windstopper Down Jacket from L.L. Bean.

Rated for temperatures as low as -40°, there is no way we will ever need something that is warmer than this jacket.  Featuring a Rugged Gore nylon shell to keep you dry, and a 700-fill goose down insulation to keep you warm, the Ascent Windstopper jacket is built to keep you nice and toasty no matter how bad the conditions get.  In our opinion, if things get so bad that the Ascent Windstopper won’t be enough, we’d suggest pouring a stiff drink, lighting a fire, and hunkering down for a day or two.
