Grey Plaid Wool Bow by Taylor Stitch

On January 18, 2013, in Bowties, by Ryan & Ben

As much as we love a bold bowtie, there are times when we like to tone it down and keep things a bit more low key.  Thanks to Mother Nature gracing us with three straight days of gray skies, Bowtie Friday this week is one of those times.  Our pick this week is the Grey Plaid Wool Bow from Taylor Stitch.

Flannel Lined Chinos by J. Crew

On January 17, 2013, in Pants, by Ryan & Ben

Though we aren’t going to believe it until the snow is actually on the ground, the National Weather Service tells us that today might be the day that we finally see some significant accumulations here in Annapolis.  Truth be told, as much as we aren’t fans of the cold, the snow will probably be a nice change from the constant mist/rain we’ve seen over the past few days.  In an effort to stay extra warm, we’re pulling out all the stops today and breaking out the Flannel Lined Chinos from J. Crew.

Shaggy Dog Sweaters by J. Press

On January 16, 2013, in Sweaters, by Ryan & Ben

Everyone says that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  If that is truly the case, J.Press should be one of the most flattered brands around.  A staple in every prep wardrobe for over a century, many items that originally came from J.Press have been imitated by brands young and old.  Though the brand hasn’t been quite as visible in recent years, we’re hearing that J.Press has some big things planned for 2013.  We’re looking forward to see what they’ll be bringing to market, but in the mean time we’ll check in on one of our favorite pieces in their line, the Shaggy Dog Sweater.

Woodsman Plaid Flannel Workshirt by Buffalo Jackson

On January 15, 2013, in Shirts, by Ryan & Ben

We talk a lot about how much we enjoy watching brands grow and evolve, and lately we’ve reconnected with one that has truly grown by leaps and bounds over the last couple of years.  Formerly known as Buffalo & Co. and based out West, Buffalo Jackson has relocated their operation to Charlotte, and they seem to be adding another great piece to their collection each and every time we turn around.  One of our favorite new additions is their Woodsman Plaid Flannel Workshirt.

Essential Navy Suit by Indochino

On January 14, 2013, in Classics, Suits, by Ryan & Ben

Okay, we’ll admit it, there were some absolutely fantastic football games this weekend.  Normally, the NFL doesn’t hold a candle to college ball in our eyes, but this weekend they kept us thoroughly entertained.  Beyond the games, we came to the realization that the Fox studio crew is far better dressed than their CBS counterparts.  In an effort to look a bit more like the former, we think it’s about time we pull the trigger on something new from our friends at Indochino.  Once again, we’re sticking with the basics and going with their Essential Navy Suit.

Concords by Bonobos

On January 12, 2013, in Pants, by Ryan & Ben

Around here, the town is abuzz about our beloved Ravens and their playoff run.  Unfortunately, there are a number of people that think purple camouflage pants and an oversized jersey are an acceptable way to show some support for their favorite team.  Though you won’t ever catch us in said camo, solid purple pants are a whole different story.  This week, we’ll be showing our support for the Ravens with a pair of Concords from Bonobos.

As much as we would love to celebrate every Bowtie Friday with a giveaway, we just don’t think it’s going to be in the cards this year.  That being said, we’re going to ride the wave as long as we can, and as long as companies want to team up with bowties that we love, who are we to say no?  This week, our featured bowtie comes from Starboard Clothing*, where we just so happen to know a guy.  Today, we’re happy to be giving away one of our favorite cool weather bows, the Hobbes Plaid.

Holdyn Leather Boots by Tretorn

On January 10, 2013, in Footwear, by Ryan & Ben

Over the years, we’ve basically eliminated running shoes from our wardrobe except for trips to the gym and work in the  yard. If you’re the same way, but miss the comfort of your favorite runners from time to time, we have just the shoes for you.  Striking a rare perfect balance of boot and sneaker, the Holdyn Leather Boots from Tretorn are definitely a solid addition to any shoe collection.

Image: Bespoke Post

We’ll admit it, whether we know it is coming or not, we still act like little kids when a package arrives for us.  Even if we know exactly what is inside, we still go after just about every box like a 6 year old at 7:00AM on Christmas morning.  If you’re the same way, you should probably head on over to Bespoke Post and sign up right away.  If not, keep reading anyway, because this week we’re giving away their latest “Box of Awesome” to a lucky Bowties & Boatshoes reader.

Bulkley & Willard Plaid Shirt by Concord Button Downs

On January 8, 2013, in Shirts, by Ryan & Ben

Image: Concord Button Downs

A couple of months ago, we got an email about a new shirting company up in New England.  We took at look at their website and were pretty impressed with their initial collection.  Unfortunately for us, just about everything was sold out before we could get an order placed.  Obviously, we knew we needed to keep tabs on this new brand, and once we were finally able to get our hands on a Bulkley & Willard plaid shirt from Concord Button Downs, we knew it was worth the wait.
