Guys, y’all don’t know just how lucky you are. Day in and day out we receive emails from girls looking for advice on gifts for their boyfriends, brothers, fiances, husbands, etc., and we can only hope some of our suggestions have made their way into your hands. As a big thanks to all of the ladies who email us, and who peruse our little corner of the web from time to time, this week’s Bowtie Friday post is just for them (or you guys who still haven’t finished your Christmas shopping).
So, our plan to only run gift guides on Tuesdays is officially out the window. With so many things we want to profile prior to Christmas, we’re doubling up this week (and probably next week too). Below you’ll find some of our favorite leather picks.
Getting an unexpected piece of mail is always a nice surprise. Whether it is a small envelope or something a bit larger, we still get excited when something we weren’t expecting pops up on our desks. Just last week, a box showed up from our friends over at Salmon Cove. To our surprise, they had sent one of their brand new quarter zip sweaters for us to check out. Needless to say, it has already been put through the paces.
Last week, we kicked off our gift guide series with some of our favorite paper and wood gifts. This week, we’re going a bit heavier with some metal options from brands new and old.
Compared to our neighbors to the North, winters here in Annapolis are pretty easy. Sure, we may get a bit of snow from time to time, and we may have a few weeks out of the year when the highs don’t get much above freezing, but for the most part we can get away with heavy socks and unlined boots all winter long. That being said, even though heavy socks are normally enough, it never hurts to be prepared. Thanks to a recent addition to the L.L. Bean Signature line, it looks like we might be “preparing” this year with a pair of Waxed Canvas Shearling Lined Maine Hunting Shoes.
Today marks one of our absolute favorite days of the college football season. No, it isn’t because the Heisman winner will be announced this evening, nor is it because we have a break from listening to Lou Holtz go on and on all day on ESPN (sorry Holtz fans, we like him far better on a sideline than behind a desk), it’s because the only game on the schedule this afternoon is Army vs. Navy. Even though we have friends and family who have graduated from both academies, our allegiance will lie squarely with the Mids come kickoff. We have the utmost respect for each and every player on both sides, and can’t thank them enough for signing up to protect the freedoms we enjoy day in and day out, but we’d be run out of Annapolis if we had anything to say today other than Go Navy, Beat Army!
If you’re a frequent visitor to Bowties & Boatshoes, you know that we are huge fans of Old Try. You also know that one of our founders, Ben, started a little company called Starboard Clothing not long after we launched the site. Well, today we’re happy to announce that these two brands have come together to create one great looking bowtie. Our Bowtie Friday pick this week has been dubbed “Bow Try No. 1,” and it’s available exclusively over at Old Try.
Yesterday, we talked about retiring our boatshoes for the year. After months on end of heavy wear it’s always a sad day knowing that it’ll be a few months until we’re able to wear them again. That being said, there’s something that just feels right about putting on a solid pair of boots this time of year. If you feel the same way, we think you’ll love the Red Wing 4553 Oil Cloth Boots that are available exclusively at Brooks Brothers.
Thanks to some unseasonably warm weather over the last couple of days, we’ve had the chance to break out our trusty boatshoes one last time before retiring them for the year. That being said, with winter about to rear it’s ugly head, it’s probably time for us to revamp our sock rotation. Luckily, there are plenty of great options out there for us to choose from this season. Below you’ll find some of our favorites.
Well, it was only a matter of time before we released our first gift guide of the season. With so many wonderful gifts out there, we thought it would be best to break things up a bit and offer a brief look at a handful of possibilities each week between now and Christmas. Every Tuesday, we’ll be unveiling a new gift guide, and each one will have it’s own theme. Our theme this week: Paper & Wood.
