It is always a pleasure for us to visit our favorite barber shop, The Quinntessential Gentelman. Beyond the fantastic staff and services, one of the best parts of visiting is checking out the latest wares of some of our favorite brands. Among others, The QG has a well curated selection of Vineyard Vines apparel and accessories, and we were pretty excited to be able to get hands on with their Fish Hook Belt ($98.50).
Looking through some old photos last week we realized that we owe our parents some serious thanks for how we dressed long before we knew we had a choice. Literally, how many six year olds do you know who wore khakis, a blue blazer, boatshoes, and a madras tie without complaint? Thanks to the resurrection of one of our favorite brands of years past, Duck Head, we can now recreate the look to a T with their Original Flat Front Pants (currently on sale for $36.99).
When it comes to roadtrips, if you have the right company it is virtually impossible to have a good time. There is just something about good company and good scenery that can’t be beat. Recently, our friends over at Salmon Cove set out to spread the word about their brand and sadly we aren’t going to be able to connect with them when they visit our neck of the woods. If you happen to be near one of their stops, go say hello and pick up a shirt or two. The latest to catch our attention is the Fish Creek ($88).
We all have those pieces that we know will look good no matter what, and will never be out of style. One such piece that we think every man should have is a great pair of jeans. Yes, there are premium options out there, but if you are looking for something that looks great and will literally never look dated, you should look no further than a pair of Made in the USA Levis 501s ($198).
You know when you were a little kid and you wanted to play with every Christmas gift as soon as you opened it regardless of what was still waiting to be unwrapped? Imagine if we told the little you that the gift that would make you feel that way on Christmas in 2011 was a book. While the younger versions of ourselves would have never believed it, that is exactly what happened when we opened up Preppy: Cultivating Ivy Style by Jeffrey Banks and Doria De La Chapelle. We literally started reading the second it was out of the box.
Wearing a bowtie is quite an experience, no matter where you are, or who you are with, if you are wearing a bowtie you are sure to get a few questions or comments. We are always happy to spread the word to those who are a bit leery of taking the plunge, but the thought of tying on a bow every day for a year is a challenge that would be pretty tough even for us. Well, Andy over at The Cordial Churchman is trying to do just that*, and so far we are loving his daily picks.
Just when we thought we were finished hitting all of the online sales currently in progress, we realized we hadn’t taken a look at Rugby.com recently. Well, of course they are having a huge sale, and of course there are a number of things that we really like. Always suckers for elbow patches, one thing that really stood out was their Elbow Patch Shawl Pullover (currently on sale for $59.99).
We love it when brands dig into their archives to bring back pieces that we never thought would see the light of day again. Sure, there are some misses from time to time, but for the most part we welcome these rereleases with open arms. It may seem strange for a young brand to rerelease something after only a few years in business, but Bonobos has definitely done things right with their Heritage Edition Gristanbuls ($185).
When it comes to building a solid wardrobe, one thing you have to remember is to have a little fun. Yes, you can still look great if you stick with the basics at all times, but what fun is that? Lately, we have been on the hunt for a few pairs of shoes to add a little pop for those days when everything else is pretty low key. On a recent trip to Nordstrom, we fell in love with the Wing It Oxfords ($99.95) from their house brand, 1901.
An Oxford Cloth Button Down shirt is one of those pieces that will forever be a part of our wardrobes. From the staple solids (white, blue, yellow, green, etc.) to bolder prints you can really never go wrong with a well cut Oxford. Recently, we have come across a number of patterned Oxfords that we think our a fantastic way to add an extra pop to common office wear. One of which is the Plaid Washed Oxford from L.L. Bean ($29.99 – $44.99).
