Shop Profile: The J.Crew Liquor Store

On November 18, 2010, in Mens, by Ryan & Ben

Welcome to our first “Shop Profile.” When Bows and Boats finds a unique or intriguing shop, we don’t plan on keeping it a secret. So check it out. We hope you enjoy and if you have a shop of your own that you love, drop us a line.

Some of us love shopping, we love the hunt for the perfect piece, and the thrill of discovering new brands.  For others, shopping is something is a chore that often leads to a trip to the liquor store at the end of the day.  For those in the know, the Liquor Store located at 235 West Broadway in New York City is the first stop of the day, not the last. Waxed Canvas Maine Hunting Shoe by L.L. Bean

On November 17, 2010, in Mens, Shoes, by Ryan & Ben

With leaves falling and rain that will soon be snow, it is the perfect time to start thinking about a new pair of boots for the season.  Of course, there are plenty of boots out there that look great and are super comfortable, but, in our opinion, boots should be also be something that you aren’t afraid to get dirty in once in a while.  For anything outdoors, our first stop tends to be L.L. Bean, and their Waxed Canvas Maine Hunting Shoe ($129) from the L.L. Bean Signature Collection offers a great blend of style and function.

Highgate Rugby by Vineyard Vines

On November 16, 2010, in Mens, Shirts, Uncategorized, by Ryan & Ben

Though Fall is certainly a time to show some love for your favorite sports teams, trying to look stylish while wearing a jersey of any sort is a challenge to say the least.  One piece of sportswear that is an exception to this rule is a well made rugby shirt.  Rugby shirts are also the only exception to wearing a replica jersey (so to speak) for a team that doesn’t really exist.  While there are a ton of viable options on the market, our pick for this season is the Highgate Rugby ($115) by Vineyard Vines.

Now that we’re closing in on the Thanksgiving shopping season, it seemed like an ideal time to discuss the need to have a solid coat in your wardrobe. Many times a simple Fleece will do, but there are times when it’s simply not enough. One of our favorite new options is the Authentic Peacoat with Thinsulate® ($275.00) from J. Crew.

The Coach’s Shirt by Pennington & Bailes

On November 13, 2010, in Classics, Mens, Shirts, by Ryan & Ben

At Bows & Boats, Saturdays in the Fall mean it is time for college football. While jeans and tee shirts are fine gameday apparel for a number of folks across the country, here on the East Coast we tend to do things a little different.  Gamedays are a time to put on your Saturday best, mix a few drinks, cook a few burgers, and enjoy an afternoon with friends cheering on your Alma Mater.  At an East Coast football game, khakis, polos, button downs, ties, and even the occasional blazer are never out of place.  One of our favorite gameday choices is the Coach’s Shirt by Pennington & Bailes.

Needlepoint Belts by Tucker Blair

On November 12, 2010, in Accessories, Belts, Uncategorized, by Ryan & Ben

Let’s face it, you can never have too many belts, especially when there are so many fantastic options out there.  Even though we recently did a post on Smathers and Branson Needlepoint Belts, we had to share our thoughts on another great company that a reader suggested, Tucker Blair.

Fleece Pullover by Coast Apparel

On November 11, 2010, in Mens, Outerwear, by Ryan & Ben

With temperatures dropping, and Fall in full swing, our favorite jackets, sweaters, and fleeces are all back in regular rotation. A few weeks ago,  TJ from Coast Apparel dropped us a line and asked us if we would like to take a look at the their Fleece Pullover ($98.50). At Bows & Boats we always love to check out new companies, so naturally we jumped at the opportunity. Based in Pawley’s Island, SC, Coast aims to integrate the coastal way of life into everyday clothing.  Needless to say, we think that  they have absolutely succeeded.

Once you put your Seersucker jacket away for the winter, you might feel like you’ve lost your go to Blazer. That is until you realize that with cold weather coming, you’re able to start wearing more substantial fabrics like a classy Tweed. You may not be a college professor from the 80’s, but with the help of Brooks Brothers, you can achieve a classic tenured look instantly.

Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses

On November 9, 2010, in Accessories, Classics, by Ryan & Ben

Even though the sun is dropping before most of us leave the office these days, there is never a good excuse to have a bad looking pair of sunglasses.  The epitome of a functional accessory, sunglasses can very easily make or break a look.  There are some great modern frames out there, but one of our favorites, the Ray-Ban Wayfarer, dates back to 1952.
