Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses

Even though the sun is dropping before most of us leave the office these days, there is never a good excuse to have a bad looking pair of sunglasses.  The epitome of a functional accessory, sunglasses can very easily make or break a look.  There are some great modern frames out there, but one of our favorites, the Ray-Ban Wayfarer, dates back to 1952.

Wayfarers have been brought back to life a number of times since their initial release.  Sales were brisk for most of the 50’s and 60’s but then leveled off for a couple of decades.  Thanks to a forward thinking marketing team, Ray-Ban was able to resurrect the glasses in the early 80’s by signing a deal that would place Wayfarers in major TV shows and movies, the most prominent of which was Risky Business.  Though sales once again became stagnant in the early 90’s, a 2001 redesign paired with a number of Hollywood sightings in 2007 led to yet another resurgence for Wayfarers.

Ray-Ban now offers Wayfarers in 7 different styles; Original, Folding, New, Rounded, Shield, Square, and the Wayfarer II, and prices vary from $119 to $205 based on style and lens choice (Lens choices include; regular, polarized poly-carbonite, and polarized glass).  The Bows & Boats “go to” pair is the New Wayfarer in classic Tortoise Shell ($119).  If tortoise isn’t your style, the New Wayfarer model alone is available in 20 unique color options.  From the classics (Black or Tortoise Shell) to some more eye popping colors (Red, White, Fuschia or even a bright Yellow), it is hard not to find a pair or two that are the perfect fit.
