Sperry with Band of Outsiders – Men’s 3 Eye Boatshoe

On November 8, 2010, in Mens, Shoes, by Ryan & Ben

Though we love the tried and true classics, every once in a while someone comes up with a modern spin on an old favorite that catches our attention.  These modern twists can be polarizing to say the least.  This year, Sperry has collaborated with Scott Sternberg from Band of Outsiders on 3 different silhouettes, the Men’s 3 Eye Boat, the Chukka, and the Reconstructed Penny Loafer.  By using a number of different fabrics and textures on some of our favorite shoes, Sperry and Scott have definitely succeeded in polarizing the team here at Bows & Boats.

Since they are our namesake, we are going to focus on the Men’s 3 Eye Boat ($175-325) collaborations.  With five different offerings in this shoe alone, Sternberg has truly run the gamut from making simple modern tweaks to outlandish style changes.  While our favorites lean towards the understated side, the collection is happy to appease those who are looking to make a statement with their footwear.  If you fall in that group, take a look at the Ivory Shearling covered model ($325).

Each design in the collection is eye catching in its own right, but at Bows & Boats our favorites are the Light Grey Wool ($175) and Fawn Corduroy ($175) offerings.  They both take a fabric/texture that is an integral part of fall/winter wardrobe and put it in a place that we have never seen before.  Of course, you can’t dress up boat shoes too much, but the Light Grey Wool makes a great choice for times when simple leather will not work, and the Fawn Corduroy might be our new favorite shoe for fall.
