Whether you’ve seen Wedding Crashers or not, you’ve likely heard the phrase “Crabcakes and football; that’s what Maryland does!” We’ve been known to drop the line a time or two, and apparently our friends at Mizzen+Main have as well. In fact, they decided that the quote was the perfect fit for the front of their Independence Day T-Shirt this year.
Last year, the gents at Blaze-In Sportswear reached out to see if we might be interested in checking out a pair of their shorts. We took them up on our offer, and we sure are glad we did. In fact, Ben has basically lived in that sample pair this Summer. This year, Blaze-In expanded their collection a bit, and our pick for the season is the Basket Weave print. They’ve also set up a discount for our readers. Just use the code BB-14 for a 25% discount.
For a time there, we had basically sworn off polos. All of ours hung at the ready for months on end while we went the sport shirt with rolled sleeves route. Well, that phase is over, and we’re back to sporting polos pretty regularly these days. Lately, we’ve been looking for a few that are suitable for the hottest of days, and one that we really like is the Grand Harbor option from Southern Tide.
A couple of times a year, Brooks Brothers runs an event that we simply can’t ignore; their semi-annual sale. This time around, we’re keying in on the Red Fleece collection. With trim cuts, and the occasional twist on a classic, we’re pretty big fans of the Red Fleece line, and there are certainly some deals to be had.
Finally, we are headed East and getting some salt air in our lungs for a few days. With no plans other than sitting in the sun, and tipping a few back, our biggest concern is making sure we don’t get fried to a crisp. To make sure we don’t come home a deep shade of red, we normally turn to Jack Black products. The feature below originally ran on July 2, 2011.
Never have we been so excited by a loss. Ever. To celebrate the US Men’s National Team moving on to the knockout round, we thought it was only fitting to choose a patriotic bow for our Bowtie Friday post this week. Our pick is the America Bowtie from Ball & Buck.
Bottom line, a great pair of jeans is something you need to have on hand at all times. Whether you pair them with a blazer or a t-shirt, loafers or Nylites, as long as the fit is right, they’ll never let you down. Lately, we’ve been turning to Bonobos for our jeans, and for this time of year you can’t go wrong with their Vintage Light Wash.
Finding a pair of shorts that not only looks great, but can stand up to some solid abuse, is harder than it seems. Sure, basic chinos are good for day to day wear, and there are plenty of shorts geared toward outdoor activity, but finding something that fits both categories had been a struggle for us. That was until we found the Weathered Canvas Shorts from Bills Khakis.
Two years ago, we were pretty excited to see that Ratio Clothing had added a handful of seersucker options to their lineup. We went back and forth a number of times on which of the shirts we should pick up, and eventually we settled on the red gingham. Two years later, it’s still a staple of our Summer wardrobe.
When it comes to swimwear, there is no excuse not to have a little bit of fun. Sure, a pair of classic solid trunks are never a bad idea, but for a week at the beach, or a pool party with friends, something a bit more bold is definitely in order. One pair of trunks that we’ve had our eye on lately is the Navy Butterbean Paisley option from Southern Proper.
