So, it appears that the resurgence of the popover that occurred last year is continuing on to Spring 2014. In our opinion, that’s a good thing. J. Crew has gone all in with their popover collection this season, and there are some gems in the lineup. Whether you’re picking up your first, or just adding to the collection, you can’t go with one of their Vintage Oxford popovers.

It’s Valentine’s Day, so of course our Bowtie Friday pick this week is going to be one suited for the occasion. That said, we are staying away from something with hearts or cupid and going with a tie that will work with a variety of looks all year long. In fact, the more we think about it, this year may just be our time to take the inseams up a bit and finally take the plunge on a pair of Chubbies. Their new Boat Shorts seem to be right up our alley.

It seems that every day we are getting emails from brands saying that they have just released their latest collection online. For some, that means a few new pieces to a lineup of staples. For others, it means a full catalog for us to pore over. Bonobos is one of those full catalog options, and they just took the wraps off of their latest. To say we like a few things would be an understatement.

As of this posting, there are 17 different classic Shaggy Dog color options marked down 25%, and a handful of the York Street Shaggy Dogs are marked down 75%! Sizes are scattered on the York Street choices, but if you’ve had your eye on one of the classics, odds are you’ll be good to go. Everyone knows the line between classic and retro is quite distinct. While our taste leans towards classic just about every time, we’ve come across a few things lately with a bit of a retro vibe that we really like. One of those comes from our friends at Southern Tide. Their recently released Collection Polo with a tipped collar is absolutely going to be in our Spring rotation.

By far, the best part of running Bowties & Boatshoes has been the friends we’ve made, and the community we’ve been able to become a part of. From readers, to brands, to other websites that are similar to ours, it’s truly a group who shares common interest and wants to see each other succeed. Last year, one of our fellow bloggers, Nick from Great Lakes Prep, unveiled a new brand of his own, Flyover Press. Most of their wares are mid-west centric, but their 1960 USA Olympic Sweatshirt is a solid pick wherever you call home.

Just like a staple pair of grey wool pants, a go to grey wool bow should be in every collection. While solid is fine, we prefer ours to have a bit of a pattern, and one of our current favorites comes from Bull+Moose. Their Duncan Wool Bow is perfect for a chilly winter day.

As much as we want to love what team USA will be wearing for the Opening Ceremonies this evening, we just can’t do it. That said, we have to commend Ralph Lauren for bringing production of this year’s uniforms back stateside. In honor of the Games, today we’re featuring a handful of our favorite All-American pieces. Of course, they’re all made right here in the USA.
