As much as we appreciate the Barbour classics (we’ll never give up our Bedale), we’ve found ourselves fawning over some of the newer offerings that have come to market as of late. One of our favorite new additions to the Barbour collection is actually a collaboration with Jack Spade. If we decide to make a major jacket purchase this year, it’s going to be the Hopper.
It’s not quite cool enough to break out the heavy wool slacks just yet, but as leaves are beginning to change, we’re starting to feel the need to add some extra texture to our daily looks. While a classic pair of chinos will always be a staple for us, it seems that ours will be getting some extra time off this Fall thanks to a new addition to the lineup. This year, on those days when we’re looking for a little something extra, we’ll be replacing our khakis with a pair of Herringbone Fancy Chinos by Brooks Brothers.
Our love of gingham has been very well documented. Low key or bright, large or small, we truly love it all. We also have an affinity to a spread collar, so to say we were excited to see newest release from our friends at Mizzen + Main would be an understatement. Dubbed the Beckett, this shirt may just be their best one yet.
Not only does our favorite barbershop have a staff full of experts who always leave us looking and feeling great, they also have the absolute best Smathers & Branson selection we’ve ever seen. From hats, to wallets, to belts, to fobs, to cuff links, they have it all, and with every time we visit we have to make a conscious effort not to add something new to our needlepoint collection. A few days back we got word that The QG got their hands on an extremely limited run of navy blue Smathers & Branson GOP hats, and we’re happy to announce that they want to give one away to a lucky Bowties & Boatshoesreader.
For quite some time we’ve been on the hunt for a bowtie that we could work in for the occasional Ravens game. Sure, there are plenty of bows with purple and black out there, but, until recently, we couldn’t find one that we really loved. Well, that all changed when we came across the Bishop Plaid Bow from The Tie Bar.
They say when it rains it pours, and this Fall, in our hunt for another great tweed blazer, that is certainly the case. Literally minutes after our first tweed feature of the season went live last week, we found what is sure to be the next addition to our tweed rotation. It’s the Nottingham Blazer from Bonobos.
We’ll never forget. Ever. Last year, we said we were doing our best to embrace September 11th as Patriot Day, and this year we’re continuing the trend. You better believe we’ll be decked out in red, white, and blue today, and we hope you are to. If you need some help in that department, here are few of our favorite patriotic pieces that we’ve profiled this year.
It’s amazing how one thing can change the stigma of an entire brand. That is exactly what happened for us last year, when we finally gave a pair of Dockers Alpha Khakis a try. Suddenly, a brand that we had always chalked up to “old man wear” was relevant and seeing some frequent time in our weekly rotation. Well, thanks to the latest addition to the Alpha Khaki lineup, dubbed the Game Day collection, it looks like Dockers will soon be a mainstay in our gameday rotation as well.
As much as it would simplify our lives to replace every shirt in our closet with a solid OCBD, it’ll never happen. Plain and simple, we like patterns way too much to ever take the plunge. For Fall, we tend to go heavy with plaid, and it seems like a number of our favorite brands are doing the same. Case and point is the recently released Legacy Plaid Sport Shirt from Southern Tide.
We’re going to try something a little different this weekend. We spend so much time giving our opinion on things, but we want to hear yours as well. If this thing takes off, we’ll try to do it more often. If not, hey, no worries, we’ll just get back up on our soap box. We all know that Weejuns are a staple in just about every preppy wardrobe, but how do you feel about some of the new additions to their lineup?
