Trench Boots by Oak Street Bootmakers

Even though we’ve had a few splurges this year that don’t fit with the plan, we’re still doing our best to purchase items that may cost a bit more than we would like, but are pieces that we know will remain in our collection for years to come.  In our shoe rotation, one glaring gap is a nice pair of boots.  Hopefully, that gap will soon be filled.  With what?  We’re thinking the Oak Street Bootmakers Trench Boots fit the bill perfectly.

Lambswool Striped V-Neck Sweater by Brooks Brothers

On August 19, 2013, in Sweaters, by Ryan & Ben

Lately we’ve heard a bit of griping from some hard core traditionalists that the Brooks Brothers Red Fleece lineup is just too far away from the brands core customer.  Well, we happen to disagree wholeheartedly with that mindset.  Sure, some of the pieces are a bit over the top, but, for the most part, we find the collection to be made up of a number of traditional pieces that simply feature a more modern fit, or, in some cases, a small twist on a classic prep staple.  One of our favorite pieces in the Red Fleece line is the recently released Lambswool Striped V-Neck Sweater.

Two weeks.  In the grand scheme of things it’s not time at all.  In there here and now, it is the ocean that is separating us from college football.  Last week we revisited a few of our gameday staples as we started our unofficial countdown to kickoff.  This week, we’re heading back to the archives again to revisit a few or our favorite tailgate essentials.  The post below originally ran on September 8, 2012.

Floral Bow by J. Crew

On August 16, 2013, in Bowties, by Ryan & Ben

Whether you know the name or not, we would be willing to bet that if you are reading this post you are familiar with the work of Millard “Mickey” Drexler.  Mr. Drexler is the reason why GAP got as big as it did, Apple has stores that just about everyone else tries to copy, and J. Crew remains one of the very few places in the mall that we will actually visit.  We’ve been fortunate enough to have a few interactions with Mr. Drexler over the years, and each and every time we have been truly impressed by his passion for the work that he does.  In honor of Mickey’s birthday (it’s tomorrow) our Bowtie Friday pick this week is the Floral Bow from J. Crew.

Vintage Stripe Players Shirts by Criquet

On August 15, 2013, in Shirts, by Ryan & Ben

Earlier this week, we received a package from our friends at Criquet Shirts.  It’s no secret that we are big fans of the polos the boys from Austin are turning out, and we were pretty excited when we saw what was inside.  Among other things, we were finally able to get our hands on a couple of their recently released Vintage Stripe Players Shirts.

Gramercy Twills by Bonobos

On August 14, 2013, in Pants, by Ryan & Ben

Image: Bonobos

We’re not quite sure how it happened, but it seems that the Bonobos Ninjas snuck into our closet and replaced nearly every pair of pants we own with something from their lineup.  Either that, or we have a bit of an addiction when it comes to their products.  Whatever the case may be, the bottom line is Bonobos makes some fantastic pants, and we are really looking forward to getting our hands on their newest release, the Gramercy Twills.

Westbrook Kilt Tassel Loafers by Sebago

On August 13, 2013, in Footwear, by Ryan & Ben

For years, we’ve been working up the courage to break out a pair of loafers with an accent that many think should be reserved for golf shoes, and then only when worn by octogenarians who play nine holes once a month yet spend nearly every day at the club.  That accent is a kiltie.  Well, this year we’re going all in and picking up a pair of Westbrook Kilt Tassel Loafers from Sebago.

Ragtime Black Gingham Shirt by Hugh & Crye

On August 12, 2013, in Shirts, by Ryan & Ben

After a weekend closet purge, one thing became abundantly clear, we basically don’t wear black unless it’s in the form of a tuxedo.  In an effort to add a bit more variety to our rotation, we’re going to make a conscious effort to work the darkest of hues back into our wardrobe from time to time.  To kick things off, we’re going to add a shirt that we think will work well in both casual and more formal settings into our lineup.  It’s the Ragtime Black Gingham Shirt by Hugh & Crye.

In three short weeks we will be celebrating the return of our favorite time of the year, college football season.  In the meantime, we’re pouring over any news we can find about our favorite teams, and beginning to plan a few gameday looks for the upcoming year.  Of course, some of our favorite pieces are staples year in and year out.  The post below originally ran on September 12, 2012.

Caramoor Stripe Bow by General Knot & Co.

On August 9, 2013, in Bowties, by Ryan & Ben

With Summer winding down, we’re doing our best to get as much wear out of our seersucker suits as absolutely possible before they are put away for the season.  Of course, seersucker suits mean bowties, and this week’s Bowtie Friday pick is one that we think will pair extremely well with not only seersucker, but a number of crisp Summer looks.  It’s the Caramoor Stripe Bow from General Knot & Co.
