Whether you are a sports fan or not, you have probably seen hockey footage from the 1980 Olympics. If you haven’t, maybe you saw the movie Miracle a few years back. Either way, we sure hope you are familiar with the story of the 1980 US Mens Olympic Hockey team, in our opinion it is one of the greatest stories in all of sports. Not only did the team win a gold medal, they beat the (at the time) dreaded Soviets to get to the gold medal game in what will always be known as the “Miracle on Ice.” In an homage to the Miracle, the team at Streaker Sports has released the Miracle T (currently on sale for $20.80). As far as jersey tees go this is one of the very few, if not the only one, that you will ever see us in.
We rarely participate in “casual Friday” at the office, and when we do our casual still tends to be a bit more polished than most. If you are in the same boat, today’s Bowtie Friday pick will probably be right up your alley. Definitely a more casual option, the Fitzgerald Wool Bowtie ($68) from Ernest Alexander makes a great pick for a casual day at work or play.
For the last couple of weeks, we have had to show some serious restraint when it comes to online shopping. We aren’t saying that we don’t have anything on the way, but with so many fantastic sales going on right now we could have done some serious damage to the bank account if we hadn’t held back a bit. One piece that we keep going back to is the Wool Herringbone Sportcoat from Lands End Canvas. Currently on sale for $139.99, it is taking some serious inner strength not to pull the trigger on this one.
A couple of weeks ago we were happy to spread the word about a prize pack giveaway from Starboard Clothing Co.* While the centerpiece of that giveaway was the Winter Madras Beau, we weren’t too shocked when the other item in the product shot garnered some attention both in our comments section and on Twitter. Okay, no more complaints from us about winter not showing up. Apparently, we are going to be lucky if the temperatures get above freezing today, and on top of that heavy winds are supposed to be in the area for most of the day. Needless to say, we’re going to be piling on the layers every time we have to set foot outside. One layer that we wish we would have gone ahead and ordered when it went on sale last week is the Colwood ($124-131.75) from Penfield.
To kick off each year we make an attempt to weed out the pieces in our closet that have gone untouched for longer than we can remember, and also begin to identify a few new items that will become versatile pieces for the year ahead. Sure, there are a few things that always manage to be granted a stay due to sentimental reasons, but for the most part, if we can’t remember the last time we wore it, it is out the door. Knowing that a solid sport shirt can be dressed up or down with ease, adding the Solid Tabbinet Sport Shirt ($99.50) from Southern Tide to our rotation for 2012 seems to be a no brainer.
