St Andrews Argyle V-Neck by Brooks Brothers

On April 8, 2011, in Mens, Sweaters, by Ryan & Ben

As golfers, we see some strange clothing choices on the course from time to time.  For example, when teeing it up at our local course last season we were surprised to see a group ahead of us decked out in “old school” golf attire.  When we say “old school”, we aren’t talking about the big collars and plaid pants of the 70’s, we are talking back to the days of drivers caps, short pants, and lots and lots of argyle.  In small doses, argyle can be a welcomed addition to any wardrobe.  In large quantities, not so much.  The St. Andrews Argyle V-Neck ($149) by Brooks Brothers is one of those pieces that adds just the right amount of argyle to any ensemble.

Plaid Golf Pants by Nike Golf

On April 7, 2011, in Mens, Pants, by Ryan & Ben

As of 7:45 this morning, The Masters will officially be underway.  The skies in Augusta are clear, and with temperatures in the high 70’s and a slight breeze in the air, the conditions for golf could not be better.  Since it is the first Major of the year, The Masters is normally a place that all of the major sponsors unveil their latest and greatest golf offerings.  While we normally veer towards brands that aren’t traditionally sports oriented for our on course gear, one pair of pants that caught our eye comes from Nike Golf.  Their Plaid Golf Pants ($80) are the perfect choice for an early summer round.

Prep-Formance Shirt by johnnie-O

On April 6, 2011, in Mens, Shirts, by Ryan & Ben

At Bows & Boats we are firm believers that anytime you set foot on a golf course you need to be wearing a collared shirt.  It doesn’t matter if you are playing, or simply a spectator in the gallery, the least you can do is throw on a polo.  Of course, a day on the course normally leads to sweating so a breathable shirt is absolutely key.  There are a number of solid options when it comes to “performance” polos, but one that really stands out from the crowd is the Prep-Formance Shirt ($70) by johnnie-O.  Luckily for us, our friend Quinn over at the brand sent us a couple to check out.

Two Under Par Tie by Bird Dog Bay

On April 5, 2011, in Mens, Neckties, Ties, by Ryan & Ben

When we were young, we were definitely guilty of buying Dad a cheesy golf tie for Father’s day.  He wore a tie every day and liked golf, how was it not a great gift?  Looking back, it isn’t hard to see why he didn’t want to wear a tie that featured a nearly full size golf bag to work the next Monday.  Luckily, the world of golf ties has come a long way over the years.  Proving that you can still have a little fun with golf themed neckwear and look good doing it is the Two Under Par Tie ($75) from Bird Dog Bay.

Skipjack Golf Visor by Southern Tide

On April 4, 2011, in Hats, by Ryan & Ben

Last week we talked about how Opening Day was an unofficial holiday at Bows & Boats.  While we were excited to see baseball season start, that excitement pales in comparison to the excitement of this weeks events.  Yes ladies and gentleman, it is Masters week.  Since we weren’t lucky enough to score practice round tickets, and we are still working on a connection for grounds passes to the actual tournament, we are going to have to live the week vicariously through the wonders of HDTV.  In honor of the tournament, we are going to take the next 6 days to talk about some of our favorite golf gear from a number of our favorite companies.  First up, the Skipjack Golf Visor ($22) by Southern Tide.

Billfish 3-Eye Boat Shoe by Sperry Top-Sider

On April 2, 2011, in Shoes, by Ryan & Ben

A few weeks back, yacht clubs around the country participated in a tradition that started right here in Annapolis; a ceremonial sock burning.  If you haven’t heard of a sock burning before, the premise is simple.  Everyone gathers to celebrate the arrival of Spring and the fact that socks aren’t going to be needed until at least October.  As you know, our favorite thing to wear without socks is a pair of boatshoes, and if you are looking for something a bit more modern than your classic boatshoe, take a look at the Billfish 3-Eye Boatshoe ($100) by Sperry Top-Sider.

Single Button Chino Suit by Banana Republic

On April 1, 2011, in Mens, by Ryan & Ben

Just because your office has “Casual Friday” doesn’t mean you have the right to look like a bum once a week.  While the ability to wear chinos, or maybe even jeans, once in a while to the office is definitely appealing, it doesn’t mean that you need to be the guy who always dresses way down.  With warm weather coming, lightweight suits are starting to appear more frequently, and there is no reason why you can’t wear your favorite one on a casual Friday, just dress it down a little.  If all of your suits lean towards the dressy side of things, take a look at the Single Button Chino Suit ($380) by Banana Republic.
