It’s a jeans a t-shirt kind of weekend here at Bowties & Boatshoes, and with leaves on the ground and a chill in the air a long sleeve tee is definitely the way to go. One that recently caught our eye, comes from Over Under. Their Antique Shotgun Shell Long Sleeve is everything we look for in a t-shirt.
Back in the winter of 2011 we were on quite the corduroy kick. From jackets, to hats, to shirts, it was a bit ridiculous how far we went. Things have calmed down quite a bit since then, but we will soon be adding a new piece to our corduroy collection, a bowtie. As soon as we saw the corduroy options from The Cordial Churchman, we knew we had to have one.
Every once in a while Twitter gives us a peek of a product that may not see the light of day for quite some time. That’s exactly what happened a few months back when we caught a glimpse of something the team up at Rancourt & Co. was working on for Brooks Brothers. Well, that something finally hit the shelves and it’s even better looking than we remember. Take a look at the recently released Wool Plaid Penny Loafers by Rancourt & Co. for Brooks Brothers.
So, apparently flannel is the “in” fabric of the season. To be honest, we couldn’t be happier about that. Of course, the classics are out in full swing, but what we really love is the huge number of brands that are just getting their start in the world of flannel. One that we were really happy to see enter the market is Southern Tide. Their Woodland Collection is great addition to their ever growing lineup, and our favorite of the bunch is the Upland Plaid.
It’s not a secret that we are huge fans of just about everything our friends at Old Try have put out over the last few years. We’re running out of wall space for their prints, and their t-shirts are some of the softest we own. Well, this week the folks down in Charlotte (they moved) rolled out the latest addition to their collection; they named it Old Top.
Though they deserve the utmost respect 365 days a year, today is the day that America officially recognizes our Veterans. Without them, none of us would live the lives we lead today, and for that we are forever grateful. Though we run the same graphic every year, and will continue to do so as long as this website exists, this year we want to do something a bit different an open up the comments section for anyone who wants to leave a note of thanks for our Vets, we know there are a few who read the site.
This weekend we’re looking back at what is still one of our favorite casual jackets, the Classic Retro-X from Patagonia. Though the color options have changed since our first profile on the Retro-X, the style and overall look is still one that we absolutely love. The feature below originally ran on October 15, 2011.

Everyone has a few places that they visit on the web from time to time when they need a laugh, or to just kill some time. One of those places for us is theCHIVE, sure it may not be completely work safe, but it’s definitely a great place to kill a few minutes. More importantly, it’s also a website that is truly making a difference in people’s lives. See, from theCHIVE spawned Chive Charities, and one of their recent campaigns hit close to home, literally. Through the generosity of the Chive community, nearly half a million dollars was raised for Melissa Smith, an Annapolitan who is now paying it forward to another local resident in need. In honor of the good they’ve done in our community, we thought it was only fitting to make theCHIVE’s ostrich bowtie our Bowtie Friday pick this week.
We got an email yesterday that caught us completely off guard, it appears that Lands’ End Canvas will soon be nothing but a memory. We were big fans of the Lands’ End offshoot, and will be sad to see it go. That said, the announcement led to us looking through the regular Lands’ End catalog for the first time in ages and we came across a few things that will definitely finding their way to our closets. One of which is a pair of their Straight Fit Moleskin Chinos.
A few weeks back we got an email from our friend Matt up in Marblehead, MA. Matt’s been a loyal reader for quite some time, and he had recently come across a jacket that he thought was right up our alley. Boy was he right. Today, we’re proud to be the first to feature the Mariners Jacket from F.L. Woods. A store that has been a constant in the Marblehead community for three quarters of a century, and one of those places that immediately landed on our “must visit” stores list as soon as we heard about it.
