Mountain Trip Must Haves

When you are packing for a ski/snowboard trip, it is nearly impossible to leave without your skis/snowboard, boots, jacket, etc.  But sometimes, the littlest things that get left behind are the ones you really wish you had.  Below are a few must haves that we have managed to forget at least once on a trip to the mountains.  What is on your “do not forget” list?

Intense Therapy Lip Balm by Jack Black ($7.50):  Sunburn sucks, so does windburn.  With an SPF of 25, the intense therapy lip balm from Jack Black will keep your lips moist and burn free.  All three available flavors are great, but for all day use our favorite is the Natural Mint and Shea Butter.

Monogrammed Needlepoint Flask by Smathers & Branson ($100):  Not the we are condoning getting hammered on the chairlift, but sometimes you need a little something extra to keep yourself warm.  Instead of trying to keep track of random airplane bottles, fill up a flask with your favorite adult beverage and enjoy your day on the hill.  While S&B offers a number of flasks with designs on them for $65, there is something to be said to have your own monogrammed version.

FBI-6 Multi-tool by Burton ($19.95):  You never know when you might need to tighten a binding or pop a bottle top, so a solid multi-tool should always be handy if you are heading to the slopes.  Burton describes this tool as a “pit crew for your pocket”, and we couldn’t have said it any better ourselves.  With multiple screwdriver heads, a 4MM allen key, and even a bottle opener, the FBI-6 is easy to use even with your gloves on.

Sunglasses: Whether it is a pair of Wayfarers, or a pair of Maui Jim’s that you wear for days on the water, a great pair of sunglasses is essential when you are going to be around snow and there is nothing worse than realizing you forgot your favorite pair.  While we recommend goggles for actual “on hill” activities, there is nothing worse than the guy wearing them around with jeans and a sweater.

All-Mountain Socks by Eddie Bauer ($21.50): Made of “guide team approved” wool, these socks will keep your feet warm whether you are hiking in the backwoods, or simply exploring a town hidden deep in the mountains.  While your every day socks may work for a while, you will thank us after you spend a few hours out in the cold and your toes are still toasty.
