Maybe it is due to the fact that Daniel Craig wore a great one from Billy Reid in Skyfall, or maybe it is just because it is getting colder, but for one reason or another we’ve seen a number of emails lately asking for guidance in finding a pea coat for winter.  We’re huge fans of the Billy Reid version, but we hear the waiting list isn’t going to be getting shorter anytime soon.  In the meantime, we’re sticking with a tried and true classic, the Navigator from Sterlingwear of Boston.  The post below originally ran on February 12, 2012.

Though we would never throw on a pair of fatigues and try to pawn them off as a fashion statement, we do think that there is something to be said about a little bit of military inspiration working its way into a wardrobe from time to time.  We’re not suggesting going out and buying a replica uniform, but certain pieces can be easily adapted to a civilian wardrobe.  One of the best is a pea coat.  For an authentic Navy look, go with the Navigator  by Sterlingwear of Boston.

Sterlingwear of Boston has been the sole provider of Navy pea coats for more than 40 years.  With that kind of track record their wares will always be welcomed in our rotation.  Their Navigator pea coat is cut from the same patterns, and made to the exact same specs, as authentic Navy pea coats with one small change, the lining.  For those of us who like the military look, but want a little bit more luxury, the Navigator features a full satin lining.  Available in black, navy, or camel, and featuring a 24oz. 100% virgin melton wool shell, this pea coat will not only keep you warm in the coldest of conditions, it will last a lifetime and then some.
