Redpoint Vest by The North Face

Vests are tough to pull off when it comes to casual wear, but when worn properly they are a good looking, functional, addition to any cool weather outfit.  Unfortunately, if you manage to make an error in judgment when adding a vest to your wardrobe, you are probably going to hear about it from your friends.  For example,  if your vest is too puffy, be ready for Marty McFly comparisons.  We have no issue with “puffer” vests of reasonable “puff”, but overall we prefer the sleeker look of the Redpoint Vest ($99) by The North Face.

Made with 100% ripstop nylon, and featuring the same primaloft lining as the Orvis Hunting Jacket we reviewed on Tuesday, this vest manages to maintain a trim profile while still providing a great layer of warmth.  Of course, as with all of their products, The North Face has run this one through the ringer to make sure it is going to perform in the worst conditions.  Even though it looks great on its own, we also love the fact that the Redpoint can easily zip in to our favorite GORE-TEX shell when conditions are too wet for our trusty pea coat.  Available in two colors for women (Black and White) and three for men (Black, Asphalt Grey, and Deep Water Blue) this vest is a great mid or final layer for the chilly weather this winter.
