Five weeks ago, the Triple Crown kicked off with the Kentucky Derby and we featured the Mint Julep.  Three weeks ago, all eyes in the horse racing world were on the Preakness, and we featured the Black-Eyed Susan.  Well, the Triple Crown is coming to an end this afternoon with the Belmont Stakes, and we thought it was only fitting that we complete the trifecta of official Triple Crown cocktails by introducing you to the official cocktail of this year’s Belmont Stakes, the Belmont Jewel.

Over the years, there have been a number of “official” cocktails for the Belmont.  Luckily for us, the Jewel is a bit easier to make than some of the drinks from years past.  With only three ingredients, this one is easy enough for anyone to make. For one serving you will need the following:

  • 1 1/2 oz Woodford Reserve (The Official Bourbon of the Belmont Stakes)
  • 2 oz Lemonade
  • 1 oz Pomegranate Juice

Combine all three ingredients in a shaker with ice and strain into a short tumbler with ice.  If you really want to go all out, garnish your Belmont Jewel with a lemon wedge or cherry.

So, now the question is raised.  Of the three official cocktails which is your favorite?
