After a long week in the office, there is nothing better than a few cold drinks with friends on a Friday evening.  Whether it is a local dive bar, or the most popular spot in town, as long as the company is good and the drinks are cold, we really don’t care where we end up for happy hour (or hours, depending on just how rough the week has been).  The key to a successful transition from work to play is a versatile wardrobe, and one piece that makes the transition seamlessly is the Ludlow Sportcoat ($138-$995) by J. Crew.

The Ludlow is available in a number of different iterations ranging from a simple chino, to herringbone (shown), to cashmere.  Featuring a double vented back and flap pockets, these sportcoats resemble the classics that may have hung in your fathers closet 20 years ago, but, since it is J.Crew’s most modern fit, these coats aren’t going to fit like your dad’s did.  With narrow lapels and a trim cut, the Ludlow may not be the best silhouette for bigger guys, but, if you can pull it off, you are going to look fantastic.  Our favorite part about The Ludlow sportcoats is their versatility; they all look great whether you are wearing them over a shirt and tie or a wrinkled pair of jeans.
