Whether you’ve been reading Bowties & Boatshoes since the beginning, or have recently stumbled across our little corner of the web, you probably know all about our love for gingham shirts.  Dressy, casual, or somewhere in between, this classic print is one that will always be in our rotation in a variety of iterations.  Not too long ago, we came across the Pink and Blue Starks Gingham shirt from Ledbury ($135).  Needless to say, we’ll be getting our order in ASAP.

Toiletry Kit by Ella Vickers

On August 18, 2012, in Bags, by Ryan & Ben

Thanks to the TSA, it seems that many guys have completely given up on keeping a nice dopp kit and have resorted to a ziplock bag to keep their toiletries corralled while on the road.  We certainly understand it might be a touch redundant to store said ziplock within a dopp kit, but we still do whenever we’re traveling.  If you have been on the hunt for a dopp kit that is a bit different than anything else out there, take a look at the Toiletry Kit ($60) from our friends at Ella Vickers.

Tartan Bowtie by J. Crew

On August 17, 2012, in Bowties, by Ryan & Ben

Image: J. Crew

This week, we’ve already talked about the changes that will soon be taking place when it comes to our footwear and pants selection come Fall.  Along those same lines, our bowtie choices will also be changing as temperatures begin to drop.  Silks will soon be working their way back into heavy rotation, and some of the bright summer madras prints will be replaced with more subdued tartan prints like the one featured on the Tartan Bowtie by J. Crew ($52),

Plum Grape Tailored Chinos by Lands’ End

Before we know it, the brighter options in our Go To Hell pants collection will be getting put away for the season.  Of course, we aren’t giving up on color just because temperatures will soon be dropping.  In fact, we’ll be adding some hues this Fall that have never been seen in our wardrobe before.  One such color will be plum grape, we’re adding it in the form of a pair of Tailored Fit Chinos ($24.99) by Lands’ End.

Schiphol Utility Bag by Blue Claw Co.

On August 15, 2012, in Bags, by Ryan & Ben

For quite some time we’ve been on the hunt for a bag that can function as sort of a “Jack of all trades” for us.  Finding something that can just as easily work as an overnight bag, a large briefcase, or even a diaper bag from time to time has been harder to find than we could have imagined, but as of today we might have a winner.  Our friends at Blue Claw Co. just took the wraps off of their Urban Collection, and we are absolutely loving the Schiphol Utility Bag ($285).

Though we hope we’re a few months away from having to retire our boatshoes for the year, we’ve already started to think about what might need to be added to our footwear rotation this Fall.  This year, our goal is to integrate a few textures and/or colors that aren’t currently represented in our lineup.  One option that is high on the list comes from our friends at Oak Street Bootmakers in the form of their Peanut Suede Vibram Sole Trail Oxfords ($302).

Saltwater Collegiate Shirt by Vineyard Vines

On August 13, 2012, in Shirts, by Ryan & Ben

Though we are long past our days in a dorm room, we can look back and credit the first time we ever walked into one as the day we realized just how important a versatile wardrobe is.  With minimal storage space, having pieces that could work in multiple capacities was absolutely key in college, and we’ve maintained that sentiment ever since.  For example, the Saltwater Collegiate Shirts ($79.50) from Vineyard Vines, will work with virtually any casual look you can dream up.

Even if we aren’t on campus for a game, we tend to break out our gameday gear nearly every Saturday during college football season.  That being said, on the weekends that we know we’ll be firmly planted in front of the television for the vast majority of the day, or off weekends, we scale things back a tad.  This year, you’ll most definitely find us in a Football in the South Pocket Tee from Volunteer Traditions ($30) on a few of those “casual” Saturdays.

Though we spend most of our time on the water “under power,” one of our absolute favorite places in Annapolis is the training vessel marina at the US Naval Academy.  There, you’ll find their fleet of blue hulled sailboats with names like Brave, Honor, and Courage, sparkling against the waters of the Severn River.  That marina was the first thing we thought of when we saw the Sailboat Print and Gingham Bowtie ($68) by General Knot & Co.

Werewolf in Dublin Belt by Kiel James Patrick

Everyone knows that we have a soft spot for red, white, and blue clothing and accessories.  We also have quite the soft spot for repp stripes.  When you put them together you’re bound to grab our attention.  While our patriotic tie collection is pretty set, we aren’t stopping there.  Thanks to Kiel James Patrick and his Werewolf in Dublin Belt ($112), this great looking combination is no longer relegated to our necks.
