Long Sleeve Logo Tee by Brewer’s Lantern

One of the most unexpected things to come to us from Bows & Boats is a group of new friends from around the country.  From fellow bloggers, to small business owners, to CEO’s, we’ve met some really great folks.  One that we have really enjoyed bouncing ideas off of is JRS over at Red Clay Soul, and when he suggested that we take a look at Brewer’s Lantern, we knew we were in for a treat.  Always fans of simple long sleeve tees, we were immediately drawn to their Long Sleeve Logo Tee ($24.50 – $28).

Harrow Silk Bowtie by Smart Turnout

On February 10, 2012, in Bowties, by Ryan & Ben

Image: Smart Turnout

Another week, another bowtie Friday post.  It feels like we are doing these posts far more often than once a week, but apparently the old phrase “time flies when you’re having fun” rings true with us.  Well, this week we are once again keeping things pretty low key with a bow that can be worn with just about everything.  Like many pieces in the Smart Turnout collection, their Harrow Silk Bowtie ($79) has an understated look that we absolutely love.

The Friedman Check by Ledbury

On February 9, 2012, in Mens, Shirts, by Ryan & Ben

There isn’t much better than seeing a company experience tremendous growth.  To think that something that was once just a conversation between friends can become a business that sustains the livelihoods of many is truly an inspiration.  Judging by a few of the pictures we have seen on the Ledbury Twitter page in the last few days, we think it is safe to say that they are seeing some of that tremendous growth, and with shirts like the Friedman Check ($135) in their lineup, we think it is going to continue for a long long time.

Mid-Calf Socks by hook + ALBERT

On February 8, 2012, in Accessories, by Ryan & Ben

Images: hook + ALBERT

It’s been well documented on Bows & Boats that we aren’t the world’s biggest fans of socks.  To us, instead of a necessity they tend to be more of a necessary evil as we prefer to let our ankles breathe as often as possible.  Of course, there are times, and certain types of shoes, that you can’t get away with going sockless, and for those times we try to have as much fun as we can when it comes to our socks.  If you are looking to break away from basics in the sock department, head on over to hook + ALBERT and take a look at their Mid-Calf ($30) options.

The Foundation Suit by Bonobos

On February 7, 2012, in Classics, Jackets, Mens, Pants, by Ryan & Ben

Buying your first suit as a “grown up” can be intimidating, especially if you are on a budget.  Yes, you can go into just about clothing store out there and find countless options, but finding a suit that fits well, looks great, and is nice enough to stay in rotation for years, isn’t nearly as easy as one might think.  Luckily, if you are on the market for your first suit, or just another solid “go to” option for the rotation, Bonobos has just released their Foundation Suit ($590).

Cricket Cable Cardigan by Brooks Brothers

On February 6, 2012, in Mens, Sweaters, by Ryan & Ben

Though we are sure the stress level during the Super Bowl was a bit higher for those of you who are Giants or Patriots fans, we had one heck of a good time watching the game last night.  To commemorate the Giants win, we thought it was only right to profile something from one of our favorite brands with New York roots, Brooks Brothers.  Their recently released Cricket Cable Cardigan ($148) has certainly caught our attention.

A Bows & Boats Super Bowl Favorite: Old Bay Crap Dip

On February 4, 2012, in Events, by Ryan & Ben
Image: McCormick

In our opinion, other than good company, the key ingredient for any successful Super Bowl party is a solid selection of food and drink.  One of our favorite additions to any party menu is a great crab dip, and the recipe we use comes from a staple of Maryland cuisine, Old Bay.  We are far from chefs, but even we can put this one together.

Totally Tartan Bow by The Tie Bar

On February 3, 2012, in Bowties, by Ryan & Ben

Image: The Tie Bar

We’ve been building and fine tuning our bowtie collection for years, but for those of you who are relatively recent bowtie converts, we can certainly understand how hard it is to determine which bow should be your next purchase, especially if you are building your wardrobe on a budget.  There are plenty of ties out there that are budget friendly, but you would be hard pressed to find a better deal than a bow from The Tie Bar.  Lately, we’ve been jonesing over their Totally Tartan bows ($15).

Navigator Peacoat by Sterlingwear of Boston

On February 2, 2012, in Classics, Mens, Outerwear, by Ryan & Ben

Image: Sir Jack's

Though we would never throw on a pair of fatigues and try to pawn them off as a fashion statement, we do think that there is something to be said about a little bit of military inspiration working its way into a wardrobe from time to time.  Now, we’re not suggesting going out and buying a replica uniform, but certain pieces can be easily adapted to a civilian wardrobe.  One of the best is a peacoat.  For an authentic Navy look, go with the Navigator ($265) by Sterlingwear of Boston.

Joseph by Walk-Over

On February 1, 2012, in Mens, Shoes, by Ryan & Ben

When it comes to the world of fashion, we are far from insiders.  In fact, the vast majority of the pieces we review on Bows & Boats are those we stumble upon on various shopping excursions.  That said, occasionally we get a sneak peak at something prior to it hitting the shelves, and today’s review is all about one of those pieces.  Slated to release on the fifteenth of this month, we think the Joseph ($259) from Walk-Over is going to be a big hit this summer.
