Just like our seersucker, we will soon be putting away the summer weight chinos.  We’ll miss them dearly, along with the weather, but there is something nice about unpacking a few pairs of cords that haven’t seen the light of day for six months or so.  For the last couple of years, our go to place for casual corduroy pants has been Canvas Lands’ End, and odds are we’ll probably be picking up another pair or two of their 5-Pocket Straight Fit Cords before seasons end.

Cut just like the 628 Straight Fit chinos, these cords are definitely a casual option, and we tend to wear them just like we would a pair of jeans.  Made from a 14-wale corduroy (that is how many ridges per inch), these pants are soft the first time you wear them, and definitely break in well with age.  Available in Wrought Iron, Toasted Rye, and Bittersweet, you really can’t go wrong with any of the current color options, but our favorite is definitely the Bittersweet.  Over the years, we’ve found that the Canvas Lands’ End 5-Pocket cords work just as well with a t-shirt and boatshoes in early September as they do a heavy sweater and bean boots as snow begins to fly.
