Gitman Vintage Oxfords by Gitman Bros.

At one point or another in your life, you have probably heard the phrase “they don’t make things like they used to” and rolled your eyes.  Well, when it comes to clothing, many times that really is the case.  With cuts constantly changing to keep up with current styles, there are many pieces that have the same names as their counterparts did 20+ years ago, yet look completely different.  One company that has decided to buck this trend a bit is Gitman Bros., the Oxfords ($155) in their Gitman Vintage line are made exactly as they were when the company was founded more than thirty years ago.

When we say that Gitman is making these shirts exactly the same way they did in the 70’s, we aren’t kidding.  Made in Ashland, PA, every last detail of these Oxfords is identical to the shirts that were being churned out years ago.  From the chalk buttons, to the locker hook, to the back button, everything looks just like it did back in 1978.  To make sure the feel is right, Gitman even uses the same cloth (100% cotton Oxford shirting) from the same mill where they got the fabric for the original run.  With a cut that moves the arm holes a bit higher than most shirts, and sleeves that shade toward the narrow side of the spectrum, the Gitman Vintage Oxford offers that not quite tight, and not quite loose look that we all strive for.  Gitman stocks their Vintage Oxfords in Red, Blue, Grey, and White, but if you ask nicely, they will be happy to make you one in Coral or Yellow.  Though the price tag on this shirt may be a touch higher than some other oxfords on the market, the quality materials and superb craftsmanship that goes into these shirts makes them well worth the money.
