We normally reserve our bowtie posts for Fridays, but today’s feature item just couldn’t wait.  We knew it was coming down the pipeline, but when Ken Rosenthal announced yesterday that he would be wearing a BowTie Cause bow supporting the LUNGevity Foundation this week, we wanted to get something out about the bow ASAP.

If you aren’t familiar with Ken Rosenthal and his bowties, you can read more about it here.  The short story is that he has teamed with BowTie Cause to wear a different bowtie each week of the MLB season that calls attention to a specific group or organization.  A portion of the proceeds from each bow then goes straight to the featured group.  This week’s tie hits close to home for us as it not only brings attention to an organization we personally support, but also because it pays tribute to a friend of ours who lost her battle with lung cancer earlier this year.  We were fortunate to call Monica Barlow a coworker, mentor, inspiration, and friend over the last decade, and it’ll be bittersweet when we see Rosenthal sporting his LUNGevity bow at Camden Yards this weekend.

About LUNGevity: LUNGevity Foundation is firmly committed to making an immediate impact on increasing quality-of-life and survivorship of people with lung cancer by accelerating research into early detection and more effective treatments, as well as providing community, support and education for all those affected by the disease.
