Depending on the application, we absolutely love or hate contrasting white collars. On a crisp blue dress shirt? No, thank you. On a colorful rugby? Sure, why not? Recently, the contrasting white collar made an appearance on a polo that has become a favorite of ours, the Criquet Players Shirt.
We’re still on a bit of a rolled up sleeves instead of polo kick this Summer, and a recent release from Ratio Clothing is probably going to keep us on the train for at least one more year. The latest addition to their collection, Indian Madras, is one of our favorite choices for warm weather, and we can’t wait to add at least one of these great looking shirts to our collection. Thanks to the team at Ratio, one lucky Bowties & Boatshoes reader is going to be adding one their collection as well.
During US Open coverage yesterday we saw something we had never seen on a golf course before, a fish. Not just any fish, but the Southern Tide Skipjack. After a little bit of research we were happy to find out that our friends down in South Carolina now have a full lineup of performance polos. After reading up on all five styles in the collection, we think our first is going to be the Jackson Island Sport Polo.
We’re a pretty patriotic bunch around here, and you better believe we’re breaking out some red, white, and blue in honor of Flag Day today. There are a number of fantastic bowties out there that will help us show our allegiance to the flag, but today we’re going with one we’ve had in the collection for quite some time. It’s the Flags and Stars bow from Vineyard Vines.
For the most part, we prefer to keep things pretty low key when it comes to logos that we wear. That being said, there is one that we’ve been making an exception for lately. The mark of our friends from Country Club Prep, Longshanks the madras fox, has been slowly working his way into our closet over the last year or so. The latest addition to the collection is the recently released Longshanks the Fox leather tabbed belt.
A few months back, when the skies were grey and temperatures were hovering right around freezing, we got a note via Twitter that we should check out a company out on the West Coast called Old Bull Lee. We were told that they were turning out some fantastic shorts that were right up our alley. To whoever sent us that note, you were right! Old Bull Lee sent us a couple of sample pairs a few weeks back, and we’ve definitely been impressed. For every day wear, their Design No. 013 Shorts are a solid choice.
Though we are always trying work new brands into our boatshoe rotation, it seems that no matter how hard we try we always end up going back to our tried and true Sperry Top-Sider A/O’s. At last count we had five pairs in regular rotation, and there is about to be a sixth. We just need to decide which pair of Gold Cup A/O’s we like best.
A few weeks back, the crew from Hugh & Crye reached out to us to see if we might be interested in checking out one of their shirts. Truth be told, we were a bit embarassed that we hadn’t already. We’d heard some great things, and with Hugh & Crye headquarters just down the road in DC we really have no excuse for not taking a look sooner. Regardless, they were nice enough to send out a Santorini Gingham Shirt for us to try.
Ever since we were little kids, we’ve enjoyed a good scavenger hunt. From the thrill of the chase, to the competition between teams, to the payoff at the end, we love them from start to finish. This weekend, our friends at Ledbury are once again launching a Dapper Dads scavenger hunt in honor of Father’s Day, and this year they’re taking it coast to coast.
We’ll always have a soft spot for Brooks Brothers when it comes to bowties. It’s where we got our first bows, where we learned to tie a bow, and where we frequently visit when we’re looking to add to our bowtie collection. Until now, virtually all of our Brooks Brothers bowties have been silk, but that is all about to change. Our Bowtie Friday pick is the Tattersall and Batik Print Reversible Bow from the Social Primer for Brooks Brothers collection.
